A brief update about R/C Toy Memories

Life just seems to get busier as we get older…or are we all just getting slower?

And how can I continue to update this website more frequently, whilst working and paying the bills? As we all race toward our graves, trying to accumulate the maximum number of toys possible, before we die…? 😅

Well, that intro got dark quickly 😅 But my point… life is busier as we age. And all those annoying adult responsibilities we have always get in the way of our toys and hobbies. Realizing that my posting frequency on R/C Toy Memories has been much slower in recent years than it used to be, as work has got busier (and despite still having hundreds of vintage R/C and other toy items to write about)… I thought it might be worth tweaking the format of this website a little, so that it isn’t so quiet?

In this hyper connected era of social media, you may ask “why bother with a blog?”. Good question 😅 I’m sure anyone still reading now, just follows hundreds of other vintage R/C and toy fans, daily, on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube etc. Proper, personal websites and blogs are a dying breed.

Lately I’ve been exploring some amazing recent Star Wars Lego sets.

That’s ok. While I do watch a lot of YouTube, I don’t use social media. And I still prefer blogging and sharing information on the open web, on a website I own. Where the content shared isn’t owned by another platform.

When I first started this site, I didn’t expect many visitors and just wrote for my own catharsis. If a few of you are still somehow stopping by – I’m honoured! But lately, my job has left me with less energy for the larger posts I used to write, after work, back when life was more carefree…

But I’m still actively collecting and doing things. So, to bring a little more “life” back to this site, let’s try adding…

A “microblog” within the blog…

In the main navigation menu and the sidebar you should now see a “Microblog” area which will contain smaller posts. I’ve only posted one so far.

They will all be found under https://rctoymemories.com/category/microblog/   They won’t appear in the “main feed” on the home page. But they will still trigger email notifications to all “followers” of this site.

My goal is to post smaller pieces, more often. Don’t worry, I’ll still post big, lengthy articles as well. But the big ones take many hours to research and write. And sometimes many months can slip by before I can complete one. So, I was thinking smaller updates might also be fun?

With new stock in Australia, I recently couldn’t resist getting one of these 😮

Potential “microblog” topics could be:

  • News about my toy hunting, and the vintage R/C and other toys that I find from time to time. (I actually bought one today!)
  • Posts about vintage R/C restorations I might be attempting.
  • My thoughts on new releases of retro R/C cars and other toys.
  • Other toys I enjoy building/collecting – including Lego Star Wars, Space and vehicles, model kits, Die-cast models, and to a lesser extent model trains, vintage video games and LCD games, and sometimes other retro toys.

… and more. How does this sound?

The Mandalorian Season 1 Blu-ray set, steelbook case… I love to collect Blu-rays, and really love this edition, with its amazing artwork.

Lastly, what other retro toys, interests and other nerdy hobbies do you have? One of my other main loves is SFF (Science Fiction & Fantasy. I love to collect vintage (and modern) science fiction and fantasy novels, and other sci-fi/fantasy film and TV reference books. I still love collecting sci-fi/fantasy DVDs, Blu-rays, CD soundtracks, posters and so on. While this blog will never be about those, if any of that stuff sounds like fun I could occasionally write about it too. Right now I’m revisiting many TV series such as Star Wars Ahsoka, Star Wars Rebels, Invasion, Silo, For All Mankind, The Wheel of Time, and many more.

As always, the goal of R/C Toy Memories is just to share thoughts about things I enjoy and enjoy collecting, and to hear from others. But! I don’t want to bore anyone, or for the emails you receive, to become annoying.

Please share a comment below if you have any thoughts. I won’t be offended if you prefer articles about certain things and not others! So, let me know what you think. 😊
