This page explains the list of the differences between the original vintage Tamiya R/C model kit called “Hotshot” (model #58047) from 1985, and the newer Tamiya R/C model kit called “Hotshot” (model #58391) from 2007.

Original Body tamiya-hotshot-body-vintage
Original body has the nose area pre-cut, and holes pre-cut for the body pin and the antenna on either side. Original wing has holes pre-cut for screws and wing pins. There is no embossed writing anywhere on the body or wing and there is no overspray film. The wing may have a protective storage sheet over it (it is not overspray film).

[1] Remake body has “58047”, “07” and “© 1985 TAMIYA” embossed on it. [2] It does not have hole pre-cut at nose area. [3] It does not have holes pre-cut for the body pin and the antenna on either side. [4] The rear wing has “58047” and “© 1985 TAMIYA” embossed on it. [5] It does not have holes pre-cut for screws and wing pins (the holes are different). Both body and wing also have thin overspray film over the entire lexan, which must be peeled off.
Original Kit Motor tamiya-hotshot-motor-vintage
Motor provided in the original kit is the Mabuchi RS-540S. It has a pronounced black plastic end, and red and black wires.
Remake Kit Motor tamiya-hotshot-motor-reissue
Motor provided in the remake kit is the Mabuchi RS-540SH. It has a recessed metal end, green and yellow wires, and a sticker on the can which says “Mabuchi RS-540SH”.

[1] Reissue chassis halves have inverted length of the shock mounts (one side’s mounts are longer than the other, but it’s the opposite way around compared to the vintage ones. [2] Sprues have “© 1983 TAMIYA”, “58038”, “09833009-D4”, “>ABS<” embossed on them. [3] Reissue part A1 has different hole position. [4] Reissue part A4 is different shape. Original tyres are made of an earlier tyre compound. They are commonly sold in vintage coloured boxes with the wheels. But vintage examples (without wheels) may also be found in plain, clear cellophane packets as taken from vintage kits.
