Conclusion: A brand new Tyco / Taiyo 9.6v Twin Turbo Marlboro Indy. Rare in any condition, ultra rare in new in box condition. Featuring twin motors and a top speed of 31Km/h. Amazing to think these cars made a brief appearance on the US market in the late 1980s, and even had “Marlboro” in their name, before cigarette sponsorship was banned in toys and they disappeared. This one is unused, and flawless. The original box window is has a gap in it, but apart from that, you won’t find a better one than this. Priced according to rarity, condition, demand, and past examples that have sold.

History

Capable of up to 31Km/h, the Tyco / Taiyo twin-turbo Indy cars shared their chassis with the equally fast 9.6v Lamborghini Countach model that Taiyo produced, and were therefore the equal fastest R/C cars ever manufactured by Taiyo. The Marlboro edition was one of those final moments of the 1980s where cigarette sponsorship was still allowed to be used on an R/C car, depicting an Indy car very much reminiscent of the Marboro-sponsored Penske Team cars in the Indy championships of that era. Ultra quick, these models also featured great details, decals, colours, tyres, driver figure with visor, and full suspension. Among the most fun ready-to-run R/C cars of the 1980s due to their twin-motors and ability to do doughnuts on just about any surface, all of Taiyo’s “twin-turbo” releases were popular models in their day.
