History

By the late 1980s, ready-to-run R/C vehicles were beginning to impact the sales of traditional kit-based 1/10 R/C vehicles. Around this time, Tamiya Corporation decided to complement their range of 1/10 scale kit-based R/C cars, with a line of 1/14 scale ready-to-run R/C cars under the sub-brand of “Quick Drive”. The Monster Beetle Quick Drive represented one of the most popular of these releases – a slightly smaller (though still large) edition of Tamiya’s famous 1986 Monster Beetle R/C kit, this time ready to go with a transmitter in the box and requiring almost no assembly. Just attached the body, apply some extra decals if you like, and the car is done. Featuring two gear speeds, very large balloon tyres, a digital proportional transmitter with changeable crystals, and great looks just like its bigger brother, the Monster Beetle Quick Drive is a nimble performer off road. It was sold widely across hobby and toy stores in the early 1990s.
