History

Along with the Frog and the Grasshopper, the Hornet was one of Tamiya’s real breakthrough kit buggies and went on to become one of the highest selling R/C kits in history. It’s elegant physique, high speed and aggressive name combined together well, and it belongs to that early era of Tamiya when each car had a distinct character and colour theme and Tamiya wasn’t simply pumping out mindless repeats or rehashing past successes. Each model was unique – and if you owned a Frog, a Hotshot and a Hornet, you had three models which could not be more different, offering a fascinating comparison when running and racing them. Today, The Hornet is unquestionably one of their cornerstone models – a fast and versatile buggy that was also tough, relatively light, realistic in appearance, and a lot of fun to drive.
