History
The Tandy/Radio Shack Buggy Special Turbo was custom manufactured by Nikko, for Tandy/Radio Shack Corporation, where it was sold in 1989. Taking some of it’s design cues from the Tamiya Bigwig, it was one of Tandy’s mid-level ready-to-run offerings that year, and by taking 8xAA batteries it was a fast and yet easy to drive 2WD buggy. Featuring a working rear differential, 2 gear speeds, “Turbo” function on the transmitter, and a very responsive trigger-style radio (with steering that works independently of forward/reverse movement, unlike some of the Taiyo offerings of the era) this was a really fun and easy buggy to drive. As with all Nikko-made R/C vehicles in the 1980s, it was made from quality materials (solid plastics, flexible bumper, soft but long-lasting rubber tyres), the kind you don’t find these days in ready-to-run R/C cars in toy stores.
