Description
This is a used Nikko Paris-Dakar Unimog in very clean condition, with very minimal use. As you can see from the photos, there is only light wear underneath – a sign it has not been used much.
This Unimog has been tested, and it does work – I was able to coax it gently to run as expected. However I did find the reception and behaviour at times, to be twitchy – as if there was some radio interference. After a few minutes, the circuitry seemed to “warm up” somewhat and the behaviour became more responsive. This is something that often happens with 30+ year old electric toys. But I want to be clear to the buyer that while it did drive forward, reverse, left and right as expected, there was also some twitching and pausing. Perhaps there was just some radio interference at my house.
As mentioned, this Unimog is extremely clean and relatively unused. Very hard to find them in such good shape, and it suggests this one has not had a hard life.
The working headlights, gear switch, 4WD transmission and general operation of the car are in perfect order.
It comes complete with the original box in worn but structurally OK condition (very hard to find original boxes for these cars, believe me!), and the original transmitter. Please see the photos to understand the condition. Feel free to contact me to find out more.
History
The Nikko Unimog was first released in 1983 and is a highly realistic R/C model. It was released the year after the Mercedes Unimog won the Paris-Dakar Rally truck class (1982), and came in two main varieties – the Paris-Dakar version, and an Alaska Polar Expedition version. The rear canopy can be removed to carry objects, and the model is overall incredibly scale-like and realistic, right down to the tyre tread. It was sold by Nikko in Japan and Europe where it proved popular, and Radio Shack / Tandy also licensed it for their stores during the mid 1980s.
