Description
This is an excellent condition Gama Land Rover from circa 1981 – a highly realistic 1/10 scale vintage R/C model. The vehicle is used, and has a few marks – and one of the decorative plastic tools on the bonnet (a black shovel) is only half-present. But otherwise this model has all of it’s decals and presents extremely well – in fact it looks amazing. There are no breakages or other faults.
It has been tested on carpet and works absolutely perfectly – including the headlights. The original set came with an inflatable, motorized boat as well, but this boat is not present. However it does comes with the transmitter of course, plus the manual and the original box. The box has wear but it is still quite presentable. It’s very lucky to find this model with the original box at all.
Take it from a collector – this model is extremely rare. I am not sure if it was ever sold outside of Europe in the early 1980s, although it was made in Japan by KK Matsushiro so it is probable that some were sold there too. You may never see another example, let alone one this complete, clean and in absolutely perfect working order. So don’t miss this chance to own the beautiful 1/10 scale Gama Land Rover – an amazing R/C toy from the 1980s.
Please see the photos to understand the condition. Feel free to contact me to find out more.
History
The 1/10 scale Gama Land Rover was made in the very early 1980s, and while the exact year of release is currently still unknown to me, I am estimating 1981 based on my knowledge of other releases under the Gama brand. The real company behind this model is KK Matsushiro – a Japanese company that made a handful of beautiful, high quality R/C toys in the early to mid 1980s – the most famous probably being “The Winch”. In Germany, the Gama company (Georg Adam MAngold) would import and rebrand high quality R/C toys sometimes, and this was undoubtedly one of their most amazing and expensive releases.
This model is a highly authentic, large 1/10 scale R/C Land Rover – the likes of which became famous for their exploits in events like the Camel Trophy in the early 1980s. It has working headlights, and a 2-speed gearbox. The model is 2WD, however it’s use of 6 x C batteries is equivalent to the power used by a typical Tamiya buggy (6 x C cells in a sealed battery pack), so therefore this can can travel with surprising speed for a ready to run vintage toy. Performance is generally excellent thanks to the high quality Digital Proportional transmitter included, which of course also allows you to drive as slowly and realistically as you like. The vehicle even has spring suspension at the front to even out the bumps. The bonnet carries 2 plastic tools (a shovel and an axe) which can be detached, for further variety of play. And the car originally came equipped with a working inflatable rubber dinghy with it’s own motor as well.
The Gama Land Rover, manufactured by Matsushiro, was a truly unique R/C toy set – the likes of which you only saw around in the 1980s. Today it has great appeal to both vintage R/C enthusiasts, and fans of vintage full-sized Land Rover vehicles who enjoy collecting scale models.
