Description

After the success of the Jet Hopper, Taiyo released… the Jet Fighter!

This Taiyo Jet Fighter is an original first release Taiyo Jet Fighter from 1987. This example is brand new. It has been stored since 1987 and never run. You will not find better.

Brand new and a true shelf display piece. The underside of the car is glossy and free of scuffs, as the photos show – which is the best indicator of brand new condition.

Because this is a near-30 year old toy that has sat dormant for so long, the car has been tested by carefully holding it aloft (not on the floor) and running the wheels for about 60 seconds just to confirm all functions. It is 100% functional and mint.

The box is excellent with sharp edges and corners. There is a small tear on one side, but it’s nothing much. There is some colour fade to several sides of the box. However, there are very few scuffs to the box and the overall box condition would be a 7 or 8 out of 10 in my book. Inside, the thin polystyrene lid is included, and has one corner missing. The rest of the polystyrene box is very good.

The early “black box” Taiyo buggies are among my favourite ready-to-run vintage R/C models, due to their high quality, great looks and real sponsor decals. All early Taiyo models were Made In Japan. This is a rare chance to add a brand new Jet Fighter to your collection. The last one I sold was very near mint. This one is priced accordingly being just that little bit better, and worthy of “brand new” status.

Please see the photos to understand the condition. Feel free to contact me to find out more.

History

The Taiyo Jet Fighter is a 2WD off road racing buggy featuring “Turbo” and was released in 1987. It was one of the next buggies released by Taiyo after the immense success of their “Jet Hopper” in 1986. The Jet Fighter is a more sophisticated vehicle than the Jet Hopper, featuring a fully working differential, and a higher top speed. It’s gorgeous looks were inspired by real racing buggies, and it features many real world sponsor decals. From 1986 to 1989, Taiyo released a number of realistic, ready to run off road buggies starting with the Jet Hopper, and all featured classic 1980s buggy looks, and were a lot of fun to drive – not to mention being surprisingly quick at their top speed. These early Taiyo releases came in stylish black boxes, and are quite sought after today by fans of ready-to-run R/C models. Being ready to run, they were all too easy to take out of the box and play with, so hence it’s difficult to find any examples in clean or brand new condition today.
