Conclusion: This Nikko Big Thunder G3 is brand new – unused, and flawless. The Big Thunder G3 was the first ever off-road R/C vehicle made by Nikko, released way back in 1980. Extremely rare in such new condition, and even comes with the unused set of additional decals to apply. The box is in OK condition with some wear and fade, but still rigid and presents well. One of the last in the world in brand new, unused condition. Priced according to rarity, condition, demand, and past examples that have sold.

History

The Nikko Big Thunder G3 was Nikko’s first ever off-road R/C vehicle, and was released way back in 1980. At 1/10 scale it rivaled similar beach buggy styled models from Tamiya (Sand Rover) and Kyosho (Eleck Peanuts), yet came in ready to run form, and used Nikko’s solid and dependable Digital Proportional radio. Internally, the Big Thunder has a servo-driven, sealed mechanical speed control, and servo-driven steering. It’s showpiece feature for the time was a 3-speed gearbox, controlled by a lever in the rear tray. Slow and steady in performance, but high in realism, and like its rivals it had no differential, but it does have basic spring suspension at the front, along with high quality and long wearing rubber tyres featuring “Goodyear” branding. The Big Thunder G3 was a stunning ready-to-run R/C toy for 1980, at a time when barely any electric off-road cars were actually on the market. And a must-have if you love the classic Meyers Manx beach buggy style.
