Description
A rare chance here, to find this amazing vintage Nikko model is such condition, complete with box and all inserts.
This is a vintage Nikko Toyota HiLux 4WD. This model is 1/10 scale and was released in 1982. It was Nikko’s most advanced and expensive model during their early years of R/C, and was released to the market as a ready-to-run alternative to the Tamiya Toyota 4×4 Pick-Up.
Like the Tamiya model, this vehicle came with remotely-operated gear shift functionality, which was highly advanced for it’s day. It also has remotely operable headlights.
The example for sale here is what I would term “Mk1” of this model – the earliest variant, because it came with the standard remotely operated headlights and gearshift (a later “Mk2” edition had operating lights on the roof as well).
In summary, this vehicle’s features are:
– Remotely operated gear shift (Low and High gear)
– Remotely operated headlights
– Selectable 4WD vs 2WD (via switch on the underside)
– Front axle differential
This example is in superb condition and appears to have essentially “never been run”. Maybe it was run once? There is a light mark on the rear window. The bumper bar has a couple of possible scuffs on the edges. But it’s nothing really. The car is spotlessly clean, and has no marks or scuffs on the underside – suggesting it has had virtually no use, and has certainly never seen dirt. The tyres are soft and fresh, like brand new.
The battery compartment is mint/clean. The decals are excellent all round, although the Toyota decal on the front grill is a little lop-sided (a careful modeller can adjust this)
This example is truly stunning, complete with box, manual and paperwork, and even all polystyrene inserts. The box is has some edge wear, but is very good overall.
This is a true collector’s item. In my opinion, you will not find a better, or more complete, example than this.
The model has been tested carefully briefly on a clean table surface, and all functions work as flawlessly as the day it was made.
Don’t miss the chance to add this gorgeous, scale Toyota HiLux 4WD to your vintage R/C collection.

History
The Nikko Toyota HiLux 4WD was Nikko’s premiere R/C model in the early 1980s. At 1/10 scale, it’s complex features, such as remote gear shifting and headlights, were only rivalled by their 1/10 Audi Quattro model. And it was clearly produced to offer the market a cheaper alternative to the highly complex Tamiya 4×4 Pickup kit model. If you didn’t have the patience for building a kit, then here was a highly realistic, 1/10 Toyota HiLux that was ready to be enjoyed right of the box. By the standards of today, the Nikko model is a ready-to-run R/C toy unlike anything you will see anymore, and reminds us of the quality and scale realism of toys back in the 1980s – even the so-called non-hobby grade models. It would be fair to say that it is now an unmissable item for collectors of retro Toyota HiLux toys and models. And it’s a somewhat underrated classic in my opinion that was very expensive in it’s day, and now deserves it’s place in the vintage R/C hall of fame. And if you’re a vintage Nikko R/C collector, then to put it simply – the Toyota HiLux 4WD should be #1 or #2 on your hit list.
