Conclusion: This Taiyo Jet Hopper is new in box, and comes complete in a superb (9/10) original box with all inserts and paperwork. This car is absolutely mint/new – factory fresh straight from 1986. A true jewel, and probably the best one I have ever offered. Jet Hopper collectors may recognize this as a Mk2 type Jet Hopper – basically the type sold in Australia, with the low profile front tyres, LED on the car, and 25km/h top speed. This is a rare chance to own a mint Mk2 example with mint tyres – particularly the hard to find rear tyres. A highly sought after model, in the best condition possible. Priced as always – according to rarity, condition and past examples I have sold.

History

The Taiyo Jet Hopper is one of the most famous R/C toys ever made. It was first released by Taiyo in 1986, and subsequently found it’s way around the world. It was branded both Tyco and Taiyo in the USA, Metro and Taiyo in Australia, Dickie and Taiyo in Europe, and just Taiyo elsewhere. It is possibly the biggest selling R/C model ever – the scale of it’s popularity during the mid 1980s was phenomenal, with 280,000 Jet Hoppers sold in Australia alone during 1986 and 1987. It’s combination of realistic ready-to-run buggy looks, catchy name, and “Turbo” function on the transmitter made it a hit in virtually every market in the world from 1986. And it underwent three subtle revisions during it’s production between 1986 and 1988.
